Oil and Gas Extraction

Horizontal Drilling and Hydraulic Fracturing

Horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing need each other to work. Horizontal drilling allows oil and gas to be reached better. Hydraulic fracturing helps open the rock so that while we are drilling we can get more oil and gas. Putting horizontal drilling and hydraulic fracturing together makes a technological device making energy resources easier to gain.

How we use Drilling & Fracturing

  • Drilling a hole straight into the ground.
  • The drill will then turn sideways to reach oil and gas that is hard to be reached.
  • A mixture of water, sand and chemicals will be pumped into the ground.
  • Oil and gas will then be pulled up to the surface due to using the mixture.
  • The oil and gas will be transported.

Water Impact

Water is a big part of how we get so much oil and gas. If we are in a water crisis and we need water are we going to use it for oil or for us to be able to drink? If we are using all this water we need to be careful to know what the limit is.

Pros of Oil and Gas Extraction

  •  Jobs.
  • Support business.
  • Firms make a lot of money.

Cons of Oil and Gas Extractions

  • Cost.
  • Water depletion.
  • Air pollution
